Keyword Rich Domains? Do They Work?

Author: When I start a new project I always think of a good “keyword rich” domain…. I always extracted a list of keywords and run it through google for the exact term match. Google will give you two: broad and exact. Broad will give you all keywords related to the keyword you are looking for. I would sort through all the keywords looking for the ones with the highest volume… I would then export them into namecheap to see if any of the domains were available… sounds easy enough, but there were a lot of steps involved.. takes longer than you realize. Well, I found a perfect replacement for doing it by hand. Position Sniper. I am interested in finding domains that are related to IP sites…. so I believe I have found the perfect ones. I will post the video I made of the first time I used this script when I decide whether I want the domains or not…. I am still at odds whether a keyword rich domain will help in the search engines or not… You also need to be concerned with the competition of the keyword. Ideally, you want the keyword in quotes to have under 300K competing results… There are lot of conflicting stories on whether this works anymore or not, but I am going to do my own research and experiments to find out… I do know that I found a keyword that has over 18K traffic with under 250K competition, with the keyword in quotes… A few months ago I would have been very excited about that… but now, not knowing if it makes a difference, I am not as anxious about it… But I will run my experiment to see what happens. Update on ranking experiment
I’m going to update you on the ranking experiment i did a few weeks ago.. i took a.com keyword rich domain ,which I was lucky to find, set up a blog and posted a youtube video related to the subject. I did not do any promotion of any kind, simply set up the blog and ping the one post that i made. It took about a month but i noticed that we’re actully ranking for the key word on page 3 of google. This is not bad considering that i thought that a keyword rich domain was pretty much not necessary since the algorithm change on google. I have heard varying reports on whether this is the case or not. I’m certain with a little promotion that i could rank number one for the keyword. Now i just need to figure out how to monetize the blog. I’ve not done this yet but i plan on figuring out the page rank and age of the domain i’m competing with on page one if google for this keyword. People on my email list will get this information. I’m just glad that a keyword rich domain still helps.. even if somewhat.
