Update to my ranking experiment
As i said in my previous post i’m experimenting with a.com.. it also happens to be keyword rich domain… if you have been following seo news lately you would know that Google apparently does not show favoritism to keyword rich domains No matter if they are a. Com, .net or .org. my experiment was to take a keyword rich domain I have and see if I can rank for the keyword.. simply for the fact it is a keyword rich domain and a dot com…. I am still not convinced this doesn’t work… I am not saying that Google hasn’t changes things up a bit… I think they pay more attention to age of the domain than they used to though.
So anyway I did some promotion of the site using evo last night… the domain was already indexed before I did the promo so it did not get indexed as a result of the promotions… I am just running it through evo once for now and will submit an article through uaw…
I woke up this morning and evo finished its work.. the Google bot has visited the site but not ranking… it used to be that if you had a dot com keyword rich domain that you would be ranking fairly quickly.. we will wait and see but it hasn’t quite been 24 hours yet and nothing had happened except a visit from the Google bot. I will update when something changes or enough time had elapsed to deem this experiment a failure. A failure in that the goal of the project is to have the domain rank for the desired keyword.

Niche Blogs and the Google Slap
I had a niche blog that I was doing quite well on…. it was making me about $150 a month or so… I was building my email list… then one day I woke up and my traffic dropped from approximately 30 a day to around 4 or 5 visitors a day (all from yahoo, bing).. I thought something was wrong with my site, it was still indexed in Google, I just was not getting any traffic. Apparently the site was a victim of the new algorithm change that Google imposed. We no longer have a benefit by having the keyword in the domain name.. I had just done a lot of research and acquired some keyword rich domains, so I was upset. The game has changed once again, it is so hard to keep up sometimes, I feel like I work for the big boys at Google sometimes… argghh
